After leaving school, I took the decision to look for employment in engineering. My first job was with GEC, who found me a placement with a local fire alarm and security company on a YTS (Youth training scheme). This was my first sight into the maintenance and fault-finding role. I stayed in this role until I was offered an apprenticeship within the lift industry with Schindler Ltd back in 1991. My first year in the industry was at Openshaw engineering college where I completed an EITB course.
After completing my 4-year apprenticeship, I worked with other colleagues in and around Manchester, until I was placed on a service and call out route in North Wales. After a few years in North Wales, I moved into Liverpool city centre carrying out maintenance and callouts. Then into Manchester city centre where I spent most of my time at Schindler Ltd. Technician for the north was my next role, where a helped reduce repeat call outs, persistence breakdowns, onsite maintenance training.
In my time in the industry, I worked on major sites including Manchester United, Old Trafford, Manchester city, Etihad stadium, Beetham Hilton, West Tower Liverpool. Just some of the sites I have the pleasure of working on.
I am also trained on escalator maintenance/repairs.
In all I have over 34 years experience in the lift industry.
After 29 years working at Schindler Ltd, I then decided to venture out to pastures new in the form of Positive Elevator Services Ltd with my former colleague. We thought our skillsets would benefit the Lift industry better by supporting other lift companies in the UK. We strive to meet client expectations and set the standards high.
